Water is a basic building block of life. We all need water to exist, survive and flourish. But there are a number of factors that make getting and keeping access to clean, healthy water extremely difficult. In some areas, chronic drought reduces the Earth’s ability to provide the water we rely on. In other areas, agricultural use upstream is denying the natural water flow of river systems downstream. Elsewhere, corporations are draining aquifers around the world to fill plastic bottles for the sake of convenience and profit or producing pollution that is steadily poisoning the well for communities everywhere.
Providing access to clean water shouldn’t be hard – and in many cases, it isn’t. The simple act of digging a well in a remote village can reduce the time and effort needed to provide water to hundreds of people at a time. Plus, the issues surrounding corporate social responsibility, and tackling global pollution problem are being tackled – and there are a number of organisations working on it for the benefit of us all.
