Here at good.film we might be biased, but we think that letting everyday people decide on the rules of their society is a pretty great idea. However, corruption, disenfranchised voters, nepotism, and political censorship means that sometimes democracy doesn’t work so well in practice. At the same time, political extremism and social division is increasing around the world. There has been concern in recent years that democracy shows signs of backsliding globally. We know that outcomes of corruption and political alienation aren’t great: broken political systems lead to increased inequality, violence and human rights abuses.
