The criminal justice system is complicated. Is it designed to protect communities? Rehabilitate offenders? Or to uphold justice through fair punishment? Regardless of your answer, a good justice system is unbiased, serving all citizens equally. However, these principles often fall short in real life. Miscarriages of justice happen frequently, often skewed against the most disadvantaged members of society, and manifesting through police brutality, racial profiling, wrongful convictions and persecution.
