This is, arguably, the issue that looks set to define a generation. Sexual and gender identity is a massive part of who we are as people – and while it has become more common to let the world know who you are, the divide between acceptance and outright bigotry is still deep, and stark. But it’s not all glitter and street parades. The daily struggle faced by the LGBTQI community is tough, leaving people vulnerable and often times confused, which can take a significant toll on their mental health. And there is still a very real physical risk as well. Members of the LGBQTI community face an elevated risk of being the victim of a number of serious crimes, including sexual assault, and domestic violence.
