Defining racism is pretty simple: it’s any form of discrimination on the basis of race. But as simple as it is to define, it’s not always obvious. Racism is more than just a one-on-one interaction – it is present in the very systems of society, where one group maintains control of institutions, media, money and culture. Racism is harmful, and is most often an issue that affects people of colour. You can see it in unemployment and poverty levels, and the life-threatening consequences of police brutality and inadequate healthcare.
