Now that #MeToo and #TimesUp have shaken the world awake, more powerful stories featuring survivors & victims of sexual and domestic violence are reaching our screens. Sexual violence occurs when someone is forced (or attempted to be forced) into a sexual act without consent. That includes unwanted contact or touching, sexual exploitation or trafficking, and the taking and sharing of intimate images of another person. Domestic violence typically occurs within families, and is not always physical. Emotional abuse, religious manipulation, and economic control are also forms of domestic violence, and can be equally traumatic for victims. The psychological manipulation that often accompanies prolonged abuse means that many survivors and victims struggle to understand or explain what is happening to them.
