At good.film, we believe in the power of film to not only entertain but also to make a difference in the world. When you purchase a Good Tix, you're not just having a great time at the cinema. You're also supporting the top charities (yes multiple!); each carefully chosen to make a tangible impact.
Our approach is unique in that we break down the act of giving into causes – think Climate Change, Indigenous Equity, or Mental Health – and then select three of the most effective charities that support each cause. When you purchase a Good Tix, your contribution is split between these three charities.
How do we choose these charities? We've developed a rigorous selection criteria that consists of four separate checks. Firstly, we examine each charity's transparency and stability, using data collected by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) to verify the charity's financial health and reporting standards.
Next, we confirm the charity's Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, which allows you to claim a tax deduction for your donation. Then, we scrutinise the charity's communication, assessing their website and social media presence to ensure they are effectively meeting their stated aims.
Finally, we consider the charity's reputation, taking into account any negative press or unscrupulous dealings. Only the charities that clear all of these checks are selected for our Good Tix lineup. This exhaustive vetting process ensures that your donation is going to the most effective and reputable organisations in Australia.
When you buy a Good Tix, your donation supports one of the following causes:
For Disaster Relief, your donation goes to the Australian Red Cross, Disaster Relief Australia, and Givit Listed; supporting three distinct approaches. The Australian Red Cross provides direct intervention, responding to emergencies and providing relief to those affected. Disaster Relief Australia, with its military veteran-led teams, advocates for effective disaster management and deploys rapid relief teams to affected areas. Givit Listed, on the other hand, operates on a research-based model, ensuring that donated goods get to where they are most needed, based on real-time data during a disaster.
For Suicide Prevention, your donation is directed to Suicide Prevention Australia, Gotcha 4 Life, and the Black Dog Institute. Suicide Prevention Australia is a leader in advocacy, influencing government policy and helping to shift societal attitudes towards suicide prevention. Gotcha 4 Life offers direct intervention to end suicide by improving men's mental health, while the Black Dog Institute is dedicated to research to understand, prevent, and treat mental illness.
In the field of Cancer Research, your donation supports the Cancer Council, Canteen, and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute. The Cancer Council funds research, advocates for and provides support to people affected by cancer, while Canteen provides direct services to young people living with cancer. The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute takes a research-centric approach and is a leader in developing innovative cancer therapies.
For Indigenous Equity, your contribution is directed towards The Healing Foundation, Yalari, and the Lowitja Institute. The Healing Foundation focuses on direct intervention to address the ongoing trauma caused by actions like the forced removal of children from their families. Yalari advocated for better educational opportunities for Indigenous children from regional, rural, and remote communities. The Lowitja Institute undertakes essential research in areas that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health.
For Climate Change, your donation aids the Climate Council of Australia, Australian Youth Climate Coalition, and Beyond Zero Emissions. The Climate Council provides advocacy by delivering independent, authoritative climate change information to the Australian public. The Australian Youth Climate Coalition focuses on direct intervention through youth-led initiatives tackling climate change, and Beyond Zero Emissions focuses on research as an internationally recognised climate change think tank.
For Wildlife Conservation, your donation supports the International Fund for Animal Welfare, World Land Trust, and World Animal Protection. The International Fund for Animal Welfare provides direct intervention, by rescuing and protecting animals worldwide. The World Land Trust advocates for the protection of the world’s most biologically important and threatened habitats, and World Animal Protection applies a research-driven approach to protect animals globally.
Lastly, for LGBTQIA+ causes, your donation is split between LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, Minus18 Foundation, and Pride Foundation Australia. LGBTIQ+ Health Australia advocates for a national focus on LGBTIQ+ health, while the Minus18 Foundation provides direct intervention, championing for LGBTQIA+ youth through events and digital resources. Pride Foundation Australia leverages research to support charitable activities that benefit Australia’s LGBTQIA+ communities.
We've partnered with the Good Giving Fund, a registered charity and Public Ancillary Fund. The Good Giving Fund receives donations made via good.film and then grants the donations to the selected charities. This partnership ensures our recommendations remain independent, and your donations are directed towards the most effective causes.
